About Scott Macmann

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio during the height of the Cold War, grew up here, and attended the University of Cincinnati.

To pay for college I enlisted in the Ohio National Guard, and earned a degree in Political Science with a Regular Army commission as a ROTC Distinguished Military Graduate. My subsequent ten-years of active duty with the U.S. Army included tours in South Korea and West Germany, and featured assignments with the infantry, military intelligence and counterintelligence. Following the conclusion of the Persian Gulf War, the Great Drawdown of 1993 was an opportunity to change my life’s course. I resigned my commission and returned to Southwest Ohio in pursuit of a quieter life that included writing.

Yes, I have had a long association with the military, and these experiences can be seen in much of my writing. A fascination with politics, society and history provides fuel for alternative and speculative ideas. I like to inject subtle humor and farce as counter-balancing elements to more serious subject matter.

As an active member of regional writing groups, including my current stint as President of the Cincinnati Fiction Writers, I help peers with their writing, and they help me remain grateful for the gift of creativity. My near-future second novel is complete and in the hands of a soon-to-be-announced publisher. I’m working on a third novel set in the far-flung future. Other projects are in development.
